Our Impact
Africa Jam is making a measurable difference in the lives of historically disadvantaged children in South Africa. Evidence of this success includes:
- Increasing the number of children served by more than 300 percent in six years.
- Partnering with more than 50 schools and adding more than 20 schools to its network of service.
- Receiving the South Africa Department of Education endorsement in 2004 for excellence in after school programming.
- Reaching more than 10,000 young people in 2008.
- Building a youth center in Khayelitsha: Through the support of generous donors like you, Africa Jam was able to secure land rights and build a community center in Khayelitsha, one of Cape Town's most dangerous townships.
- Launching Vacations with a Purpose: Africa Jam launched a powerful program to bring more Americans to South Africa to experience Africa Jam first-hand. This unique travel opportunity allows people to combine service with experiencing the natural beauty, history and culture of the Cape Region.
- Providing Holiday Clubs and Camp Experiences: In 2008, Africa Jam hosted more than 10 day- and overnight-camp experiences for young people from South Africa's most embattled communities. With a safe, first-class campsite, Africa Jam campers enjoyed a ropes course, beautiful pool and safe sleeping facilities.
