Africa Jam Khayelitsha Project

Picture of the current shack Model of new Community Center
Africa Jam's Khayelitsha project is deep in the heart of one of the poorest and largest townships in South Africa. The youth of the Africa Jam Khayelitsha project make use of a shack built of corrugated steal and coke crates. Surrounded by the decay of the slums, youth meet daily to uplift, empower and encourage one another in their struggles. They are the light of hope to their community.
With the help of generous donations from individuals and churches, Africa Jam, along side the youth of the Africa Jam Khayelitsha project are building a youth center.
Thank you to all of our partners who are making this dream come true. Stay tuned for more pictures of the center.
The Story Behind the Africa Jam Khayelitsha Project
In 2006 Loyiso Damoyi, while working with Africa Jam, expressed his desire to start something new in his community of Khayelitsha. As a staff member of Africa Jam, he started an after-school program of 10 teens to provide a safe and healthy alternative for the youth. Today, the group has grown and reaches over 150 youth who participate in drama, dance, and music 6 days a week. Africa Jam has not only been a family and a safe home but they are now impacting Khayelitsha and the greater Cape Town area. They have a core group of professionally talented members who write, direct, and perform all of their original plays. Using the creative arts, they are entertaining audiences and addressing relevant issues in South Africa.
